Teen ganja dealer found guilty of trafficking

A 17-year-old boy, who was caught selling ganja, was yesterday found guilty of the crime by a city magistrate, who postponed sentencing to await a probation report.

Mark Hillman, of 88 Third Street, Better Hope, South, East Coast Demerara, was yesterday found guilty by Magistrate Fabayo Azore of possession of 15.4 grammes of cannabis for trafficking.

The charge against Hillman stated that he committed the crime on December 12th, 2015 at the National Park.

During Magistrate Azore’s ruling, she said that she was satisfied with the evidence presented by the prosecution which established that Hillman was observed selling the illicit drug and the subsequent search by police found the drug on him.

It was on these grounds that the defendant was found guilty of the offence.

In mitigation, Hillman’s attorney requested that the magistrate take into consideration his age and the fact that it was his first offence.

Magistrate Azore subsequently postponed sentencing to allow for a probation report of the defendant to be submitted based on his age.

The matter was later adjourned to September 12th.
