Dynamic’s fitness review doesn’t affect schedule for Guyana flights -Gouveia

Local Dynamic Airways (DIA) spokesman Gerry Gouveia says the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) review of the airline’s air transportation fitness does not affect its flying schedule or status here.

“It has no effect on our current authority granted by DOT to fly as a public charter Part 380 carrier. We are seeking new authority and DOT reviews everything before granting it. There is no change in our current status,” Gouveia told Stabroek News.

Following the airline’s submission of incomplete information to the agency, as well as complaints by customers, DOT is reviewing Dynamic’s fitness for air transport.

As a result, the DOT has put a stay on the effectiveness of certificates issued to the airline authorising it to engage in interstate scheduled air transportation of persons, property and mail, and foreign scheduled air transportation of persons, property and mail between New York and Georgetown, Guyana, and between Los Angeles, California and Anchorage, Alaska on one hand and Changsha and Jinan, People’s Republic of China, on the other.

According to the August 10, 2016 order, which was seen by this newspaper, the stay would cover a period of 30 days, during which time the airline would be provided with the opportunity to address concerns about its fitness.

The decision was based on the company’s submission of insufficient material in its filings for plans to add additional routes as well as consumer complaints alleging violations by it of the DOT’s public charter rule. The DOT has also accused the company of delinquency in filing required reports, including semi-annual financial reports, due February 10, and quarterly financial reports, due May 10. “Under these circumstances, we have decided to stay the effectiveness of DIA’s certificate for 30 days to provide DIA an opportunity to provide the complete information to make its authority effective and to adequately address the concerns raised about its continued fitness,” the DOT said.

Meanwhile, Gouveia also said the company is reshuffling the structure of its operations to ensure Guyanese great service.

“Dynamic is working hard to improve its operational systems. They are in the process of increasing their Guyana flights to daily. Dynamic moves 1,000 persons per week into Guyana operating five flights per week currently. To ensure that Dynamic’s flights to Guyana are not affected, the management [has] only within the past week cancelled all its flights to Punta Cana and Cancun to ensure that there are back up planes and pilots to improve our efficiency and dependability,” he said.

“We have operated in excess of 180 flights for this year between JFK and Guyana and moved approximately 80,000 passengers. There were a few flight disruptions, but service recovery [was] completed within 24 hours. Dynamic is in the planning stage of increasing to daily flights between Guyana and New York,” he added.
