GuySuCo lecturer sentenced to four years for road death

Devendra Singh, a GuySuCo Training Centre lecturer, was last Tuesday sentenced to four years in jail after he was found guilty of killing a pedal cyclist.

Singh, 27, of Lot 423 Sixth Street, Rose Hall Town, who is a lecturer at the GuySuCo Training Centre at Port Mourant, was sentenced at the conclusion of his trial by Magistrate Rhondell Weaver at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court.

According to the charge against him, Singh, on November 26, 2015, was driving a car, PLL 9727, at a fast rate along the Rising Sun Public Road, West Coast Berbice, when he struck Shermon Harper, known as ‘Deaf Boy,’ 40, of Seafield Village, West Coast Berbice.

Harper was reportedly riding his bicycle when he was struck. Harper was dismembered as a result of the impact of the collision.
