Man to stand trial over Eccles stabbing

George Dover, the man charged last year with the attempted murder of a rival was yesterday committed to stand trial at the High Court.

Dover is accused of stabbing Kester Yamster in his chest, abdomen and arm during an argument at a street corner in the Eccles Housing Scheme.

At the closure of the Preliminary Inquiry into the charge against Dover, Magistrate Judy Latchman stated that there was sufficient evidence to commit the defendant to stand trial at the next sitting of the Demerara Assizes for the charge of attempted murder.

It was previously reported that on the day in question a companion said he was standing at the street corner with Yamster, who was on his bike, when he saw the defendant approaching them. It was further stated that the defendant walked past them only to return later with a knife in his hand which then led to a confrontation and Kester being stabbed.

It was alleged that the two had an old grievance over a girl.
