Cop accused of killing bus passenger released on $300,000 bail

Police Constable Timothy Horatio, who was charged with causing a passenger’s death after a fatal crash along Regent Street two weeks ago, was yesterday granted his release on $300,000 bail by a city magistrate.

Attorney Darren Wade, who appeared on behalf of Horatio, who is charged with causing the death of Dillon Linton through dangerous driving, renewed his bail application before magistrate Leron Daly yesterday.

Wade said in light of the fact that another passenger, who was listed as critical at the Georgetown Public Hospital at time of Horatio’s arraignment, is now stable and is recovering, his client should be granted bail.

The prosecution had previously argued against bail in light of the critical state of other passengers, whose deaths would have seen more charges being laid against Horatio.

Wade also said that his client should be given reasonable bail since he had assisted the family of the deceased passenger with funeral expenses.

The magistrate subsequently set bail at $300,000 and the matter was adjourned until September 30th for statements.

The charge against Horatio, 26, states that on August 27th, at Regent Street, Bourda, he drove minibus BTT 7944 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Linton. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The minibus, which was driven by Horatio, was speeding along Regent Street after he was reportedly challenged to a race by another driver. The defendant subsequently lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip several times and crash into a lantern post in the vicinity of Albert Street. The bus was damaged beyond repair, with parts scattered along the roadway.
