Father charged with assaulting daughter

A man brought before a city court yesterday on a charge of assaulting his daughter, opted to proceed with cross charges against the teenager, claiming that his life was under threat.

Roy Marshall, 57, of 239 Forshaw Street, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, where he was read a charge stating that on September 10th, at his residence, he unlawfully assaulted Diana Marshall. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Subsequently, Diana was read a charge stating that on that same day, at that residence, she made use of threatening language to Roy. She, too, denied the allegation against her.

Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat proceeded to inform the court that the parties would not go on to give evidence against each other. This was verified by Diana, but when asked, Roy promptly told the Magistrate that he would in fact be proceeding with the case as “they” threatened to kill him.

Roy was placed on $30,000 bail and Diana granted same in the sum of $5,000. The matter has been adjourned to October 4th.
