Illegal Cessna found at Yupukari strip

A twin-engine Cessna aircraft was yesterday morning discovered at the Yupukari Airstrip,   Region 9 and ranks from the Joint Services were sent to the area to conduct investigations.

In a statement last evening, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) said that it received information that an illegal aircraft was found at the Yupukari  Airstrip, Region 9, Upper Takatu/Upper Essequibo.

During yesterday, the statement said a joint patrol from the GDF and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) was sent to the area and the discovery was made around 9:50hrs.

Stabroek News understands that up to press time the aircraft was still where it was discovered and the GDF may have sent in technicians to ascertain its serviceability.

However, GDF Chief of Staff, Brigadier Mark Phillips when contacted said, “the investigators will check everything, based on checks, reports will be submitted and decisions will be made.”

He confirmed that no drugs were found on the aircraft.

Investigators  from the GDF, GPF and Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit are in the area   conducting investigations.

In past years, illegal aircraft have been found on airstrips in various parts of the country.
