Technician charged over theft of iPhone, other items

Accused of stealing almost $200,000 in goods and cash a man was on Friday granted reasonable bail after the prosecution’s explanation of what occurred.

The court was told that on August 31, Jason Glasgow, 24, broke and entered the dwelling house of Verley Corlette and stole a Dell laptop valued $100,000, a Sky phone valued $30,000, an iPhone S4 valued $50,000, a GTT landline card valued $500 and $16,000 cash.

Glasgow, a computer technician of Charlestown, entered a not guilty plea.

According to the defendant’s attorney, his client received a cellphone to be repaired and while the phone was in his possession he answered a call.

The person on the line requested that he take the phone to a certain place since it was stolen.

The defendant reportedly went to meet the individual and was later arrested.

Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick told the court that during the night of August 31, the complainant had secured her items but was later alerted when she saw a light in her home. She then observed a man running out of her home which caused her to raise an alarm.

The matter was then reported to the police and the defendant was arrested as he was trying to sell the phone.

Subsequent to the prosecutor’s argument, Magistrate Judy Latchman granted the defendant $40,000 bail.

The matter was then adjourned to October 10 when it will be heard by Magistrate Annette Singh.
