A 24-year-old woman was yesterday released on bail after she denied fraudulently converting more than a $100,000 in groceries for her personal use and benefit.

A city court heard that between August 30 and September 15, at Puruni Landing, Essequibo, Alicia Maniram, 24, fraudulently converted $152,800 worth in groceries entrusted to her by Marlyn Bariton, to sell and return the proceeds, for her personal use and benefit.

Maniram pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt told the court that he had no objections to bail, which was set at $180,000 by the magistrate.

The matter was adjourned until September 27 for statements.
