Suspect caught, confesses to Orrette West murder – police

A man who was wanted for questioning over the murder of Orrette West on the Plaisance Railway Embankment in June has been apprehended.

Acting Crime Chief Hugh Jessemy, last night confirmed that the police swooped on the man in an Albouystown house after acting on information.

He also said that the man admitted to the crime during interrogation yesterday.

Jessemy explained they would be seeking legal advice today before pressing any charge.

Stabroek News understands that on the night of June 3rd   , the suspect and the now dead man had an argument during which West was stabbed to death.

A source told Stabroek News the suspect related to investigators that he stabbed the man after being hit with a bottle to his head.  Both men on the night were consuming alcohol at a bar prior to the stabbing.

The fatal altercation, during which West was stabbed to his chest, occurred around 12.30am. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
