Suspect in murder of Cummings Lodge vendor turns self in

A day after the Guyana Police Force issued a wanted bulletin for the second suspect in connection with the murder of Cummings Lodge vendor, Anita Mohan, the man surrendered to the police.

This was confirmed by Acting Crime Chief, Hugh Jessemy who told Stabroek News that the suspect turned himself into the police during Tuesday. He remained in custody up to press time as the investigation continues and a case file is expected to be sent for legal advice soon.

daily10&15.qxdThe police on Monday issued a wanted bulletin for Damion Hopkinson, 27, of Lot 55 Industry, East Coast Demerara.

This came almost three weeks after Mohan’s nephew was arrested and charged with the crime.

Kevin Mohan also known as ‘Chucky,’ 32, of 315 Cummings Lodge, ECD was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on September 4, at Cummings Lodge, he murdered Anita, during the course of a robbery, where he stole $10,000 from the deceased.

He was remanded to prison by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul who transferred the matter to the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court for October 28.

Mohan called `Sandra’, 48, a vendor of 315 South East Cummings Lodge, Greater Georgetown was discovered dead on September 4 around 5pm by her son, Imtiaz Khan who had just returned from work.

She was found lying on her kitchen floor with stab wounds about her upper body. Her head was also bashed in.
