Four years in jail, $5.7M fine for ganja trafficker

A man was yesterday sentenced to four years in jail and fined $5.7 million after being found guilty of possession of cannabis for trafficking.

Otis Halley was charged with being in possession of 3.832 kilogrammes of cannabis on June 22, at Norton Street, Lodge, for trafficking.

At the conclusion of Halley’s trial before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday, it was stated that the court found the evidence by the prosecution’s witnesses to be consistent.

It was stated that based on the evidence, Halley had knowledge and control of the narcotics. It was also noted that he gave an oral statement to police where he said that the drugs belonged to a friend, who was in the bush.

As a result, he was found guilty.

When asked if he had anything to say, Halley maintained his innocence, while stating that he knew nothing about the drugs and that the police were lying. He was subsequently sentenced and fined $5,742,000.
