A man who allegedly broke and entered his brother’s storage bond and stole over $400,000 worth in items, was yesterday placed on $70,000 bail.
The courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, heard that between September 30 and October 15, at Station Street, Kitty, Andrew Colin Carter, 56, of 44 Station Street, Kitty, broke and entered a storage bond belonging to Kester Carter, and stole $425,000 worth in gardening equipment, batteries, tools, and appliances. Andrew Carter pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers had no objections to bail being granted to Carter, as long as it was of a substantial amount, since the two men are brothers. He further related to the court that the stolen items have not been recovered.
However, Carter maintained his innocence by telling the court that if he had stolen the items, why did his brother not show up to court for the arraignment? Carter later disowned his brother by telling the court that the virtual complainant was no brother of his, even though they might have come from the same mother.
The chief magistrate eventually granted the accused bail, and ordered him to return to court on November 7.
