Lethem housebreaker gets community service

A South Ruimveldt Park man was on Tuesday ordered to perform eight weeks of community service after he admitted to breaking and entering a Lethem home to fund a trip back to Georgetown.

Frankie Slowe, 33, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering the home of Michelle Kenyon between October 13 and October 14, at Beverly Hills Drive, Lethem and stealing items amounting to more than $500,000. The stolen articles listed were a MacBook Air, an iPhone 6, an HP laptop, a Kindle and pruning shears.

According to Prosecutor Neville Jeffers, Slowe was apprehended after police, acting on information, went to his home in Lethem and discovered the items there.

Slowe, however, denied that the articles were found in a house, while saying that they were left next to the police station.

Slowe stated that he had traveled to Lethem to look for his mother but had nowhere to stay and ended up on the streets.

He further claimed that the unlawful course of action he took was based on advice he had received from a Lethem police officer.

Slowe also admitted to the court that he was recently released from prison for a similar charge but said he had promised to turn his life around. The man, who seemed to be in reasonably high spirits given his circumstances, stated, “Whatever is the sentence, ah gon learn from it,” while adding that he intends to behave himself from now on.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan reprimanded the man and ordered him to perform six weeks of community service beginning on Tuesday or serve six months in prison.
