Man struck by bus on pedestrian crossing

A man is now hospitalised after he was struck down on the Eccles Public Road by a bus last night.

According reports, Hafeez Sattaur, a 33-year-old driver of Eccles, East Bank Demerara, was on the pedestrian crossing when he was struck down by the bus, BPP 8292. According to eyewitnesses, there was a rank from the Guyana Police Force directing traffic at the moment when the man attempted to cross the road.

“He [Sattaur] start walking on the crossing and I see the policeman signal for the lane to come (in a southern direction along the East Bank Highway) and like he didn’t see the man walking and the bus driver didn’t even see. In a matter of seconds the man get knock and pitch away,” the eyewitness recalled. The man was picked up, placed in the bus and was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was admitted.

According to the man’s relatives he has several internal injuries and head trauma. He was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is being treated.

The driver of the bus was taken into police custody and is assisting with the investigation.
