Sophia drive-by survivor gets hospital discharge

The man who survived Thursday’s Sophia drive-by shooting, which claimed the life of his friend, has been discharged from the hospital.

Kevin Inniss, 23, and Shane Carter, both of Ramsingh Street, ‘B’ Field, Sophia, were liming with their friends when they came under fire on Thursday night.

According to a police statement on the shooting, which was released yesterday, a dark coloured vehicle drove up and three masked and armed men exited, approached the group and began discharging their guns, hitting Inniss and Carter. The men jumped back into the vehicle and sped away in a western direction.

The two wounded men were subsequently rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital, where Inniss died shortly after and Carter was admitted.

Carter was treated and discharged early yesterday morning.

Speaking to Stabroek News, a friend of the two men said he was thanking God for his life since he had left the yard mere minutes before the shooting.

“I de just left there, ya know, to take my cousin home and that’s what happened. It was nuff of them in there but everybody scatter after them men start spray up,” the man, who did not want to be named, related. He said from what was related to him, the men exited the vehicle with intentions to kill any and every person in the yard.

“If you see how they shoot up the place and just spray all over. They de want to hit everybody with how they shoot up,” he added.

The police statement said 10 .32 spent shells and fragmentation from 13 warheads were found at the scene.

Inniss’ relatives said that all they want at the moment is for the police to do their investigations and find the persons that are responsible for his death. They explained that from their initial investigations, it was related to them that Inniss had an argument with a man who had threatened to kill him weeks ago.
