Cops working on poor-quality footage of money changer’s shooting

The police were up to last evening working on enhancing footage in relation to the shooting of money changer Vishwahnauth Nouwbat inside of Popeye’s Restaurant, America and Water streets on Sunday.

When contacted yesterday, a senior police official said investigations are continuing but no arrest had yet been made. The source explained that investigators are working towards developing the footage since the images captured were of poor quality.

Nouwbat called ‘Vishal’ of ‘C’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown was shot once to his abdomen around 4.15 pm on Sunday, while he was seated in Popeye’s with another person.

He was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Up to yesterday afternoon he remained hospitalised in a stable condition.

The police in a statement had said that Nouwbat was in the company of another person at a table when the suspect approached and demanded that he hand over his day’s earnings which he refused to do. As a result, the suspect whipped out a handgun and shot him once to the left side of his abdomen and escaped.

An eyewitness related that she saw the shooter walk up to Nouwbat and ask, “Where the money deh?”

Nouwbat, she said, got up and said he didn’t have any money and the man pulled out a gun and shot him.

The shooter then picked up a bag and fled on a waiting motorcycle.
