Joint murder charge to be read next week against Demico cook, lover

A joint murder charge is expected to be read next week against Demico cook Alexis Turpin and her lover Stephon Barlow, who are accused of the fatal beating of the woman’s partner in July.

Turpin and Barlow were initially charged separately with the attempted murder of Sherwin Johnson. It was alleged that Turpin and Barlow used a crowbar to unlawfully and maliciously wound Johnson, with whom the woman shared a child, on July 2 at Georgetown. He later succumbed in hospital.

When the matters were called before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday, Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers reported that he was in possession of the file and based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the investigating officer was assigned to do further investigations and take a further statement from a witness.

The court heard that the file would be completed by Monday and the prosecution would be prepared to institute the new charge to both defendants.

This case is expected to see a total of 10 witnesses giving evidence, according to Jeffers.
