The police are hunting for the tenant who allegedly shot his landlord four times in his legs on Friday evening, after he was warned to discontinue doing illegal business on the man’s property.

Basil Murray, 66, of 89 Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, is currently hospitalised after he was shot allegedly by his tenant.

Murray was shot twice to each leg and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he remained a patient up to yesterday afternoon in a stable condition.

The incident occurred about 21:15 hrs on Friday at Lot 360 Melanie Damishana, where Murray owns and rents a three-storey property; the suspect is a tenant.

The police were up to late yesterday afternoon yet to apprehend the tenant.

In a press release, the police said the incident occurred while Murray was making a routine visit to his Lot 360 Melanie Damishana property.

“The victim was making a routine visit to his Lot 360 [Melanie Damishana] property when he met the suspect in the yard and told him he learnt that he [the suspect] was selling narcotics on his premises and for him to desist from so doing,” the police said.

As a result, an argument ensued during which the suspect allegedly whipped out a firearm and discharged several rounds at Murray.

The suspect fled the scene and investigators have retrieved seven spent shells of a small calibre weapon at the scene.
