Sophia taxi driver dies after Soesdyke crash

Trenton Dazzell, a Sophia taxi driver died following an accident on the Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara on Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred at around 3.15 pm.  Dazzell, 29, resided at Third Street, ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

The deceased’s brother, Kennard Dazzell, told Stabroek News that his brother was returning from Soesdyke after dropping a relative home when the accident occurred.

Kennard recounted that as his brother was travelling back to the city he lost control of his motor car, PRR 915 while crossing a bridge. He stated that the bridge carries a hump and as result of coming into contact with the hump, he lost control on the wet roadway colliding with a utility pole then a parked car.

The brother stated that the car flipped several times before coming to a halt.

First responders immediately rushed to the scene and rescued Trenton from the car. He was rushed to the Diamond Public Hospital for medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries.

The family believes he died from internal injuries as there was no visible sign of injuries about the body.

A post mortem is scheduled to be performed today.
