T&T teen who defended mom, dies from wounds

(Trinidad Express) Teenager Nathan Barcoo-Campo died on Saturday from chop wounds suffered while trying to defend his mother against a thief at their Las Lomas home.

Barcoo-Campoo, 13, died without regaining consciousness at hospital.

His mother, Claudia Barcoo-Campoo, who was also chopped, has since been discharged from hospital.

She was chopped on the head and hands and underwent reconstructive surgery.

The attack occurred last Tuesday when a man entered the mother’s plant shop located downstairs the family home at Las Lomas No. 3.

The man pretended to be a customer, and attacked Claudia Barcoo-Campo with a cutlass.

She was chopped numerous times, and collapsed. The thief then entered the family’s home. Barcoo-Campo and his three year old sister were in the house.

The teenager fought with the cutlass-wielding robber, and was also chopped on the head and arms.

The robber escaped in the family’s Nissan Tiida.

The mother and son were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where the teenager had been placed on life support.

Barcoo-Campoo was a second form pupil of Trinity College East.
