Forty-four dengue cases in Barbados

(Barbados Nation) – As health and environment officials focus their energies on Zika, it’s the disease that brought the Aedes Aegypti mosquito to notoriety that has been wreaking havoc on the population.

The Daily Nation has learnt that so far, 44 cases of dengue have been confirmed and health and environment officials are extremely concerned since the same mosquito which caused those cases was also responsible for spreading the Zika virus. A highly-placed and reliable source in the Ministry of Health told this newspaper on Sunday that those cases had been recorded even before February had ended. “The number is a lot higher for the corresponding period for the last year. There wasn’t that amount last year,” the source said.
