Four Bajan teens on gang rape charges

(Barbados Nation) Four teenagers were remanded after appearing in court in connection with the gang rape of a teenaged girl last weekend.

Police said they are looking for four more suspects in the matter.

Rape accused Renaldo Javon Joseph, 17, of No. 17 Husbands New Development; Shaquon Rico Tione Goddard, 16, of Arleigh Tenantry, Cave Hill; Joshwa Kobey Anthony Williams,16, of Reservoir Road, Lodge Hill; and Taj Damario Deshong, 17, of Cave Hill Main Road, all St Michael, will return to court on May 5.

Joseph, Goddard and Williams are also charged with stealing a cellphone worth $250 and $15 in money from the same girl.

The four unemployed teens went before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in Criminal Court No.1 and were not required to plead to the indictable charge which they allegedly committed on April 2.

The prosecution, led by Sergeant Neville Watson, objected to bail for the four based on the seriousness of the offence and the fear that there might be some sort of interference with the witness.

He also revealed that two of the accused were on bail and police were looking for four more accused.

The court heard that the complainant in the matter was still seeking medical attention and therapy.

Attorney Kenny Best represented Goddard, counsel Angela Mitchell-Gittens appeared for Deshong and Williams was represented by Richard Byer. Joseph was unrepresented.

The incident, which was first reported in the MIDWEEK NATION, allegedly occurred on Sunday morning when a group of men confronted the girl and her seven male friends after UWI Carnival. The walk home from the carnival was interrupted at Hinds Hill, St Michael, by the men who were all dressed in black.

The assailants allegedly robbed the men of jewellery and cash, chased them off and carried the girl to a bushy area where they sexually molested her.
