(Trinidad Express) A Brooklyn man originally from Trinidad was arrested at New York’s JFK International airport when he allegedly attempted to smuggle a kilo of cocaine packed into fudge candy.
According to the New York Daily News, 64-year-old, Noel Llewellyn who works for Delta Airlines stepped off a JetBlue flight from Trinidad on Tuesday and presented his zebra-striped suitcase for inspection to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.
Inside the suitcase were four boxes of Tortuga chocolate rum fudge.
Officers examined the items and what they found was almost a kilo of what appeared to be cocaine which they said had been, “expertly packed,” into the fudge.
Officers conducted a field test on the items and it concluded that it was indeed cocaine.
Llewellyn reportedly gave investigators several different stories about the contraband and his frequent travels to Trinidad and Tobago, according to the news report.
He said he had packed the zebra suitcase himself, then tried to change the story by claiming that his sister-in-law gave him the boxes to bring to the U.S.
Llewellyn was released Wednesday on $100,000 bail after he appeared before a District Court Judge.
