Six die in T&T crash

(Trinidad Express) Three people survived the crash that killed six men on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in O’Meara on Monday night. The crash happened at 11.30p.m. Police said they arrived to find the wreckage of a Mitsubishi Lancer registration PBU-4747, and an Isuzu pick up van registration TDL3641 on the highway.

The pick-up van belonged to Fortress Security company. Three people died in the pick-up – Timothy Fraser, Avenelle Thomas, and a third unnamed passenger. Two passengers in the pick-up survived – Roxanne Johnson and Rampaul Hanoo.

In the car three died – Che Peters, 24, Karim Romaine, 27 of Valencia, and Travis Teague. One person, a passenger in the car, survived – Kwame Romaine.

The pick-up van was headed south onto the highway when it was hit by the car heading east on the highway. Police were told that the driver of the car broke the traffic light. The injured were being treated at the Mt Hope hospital.

According to a driver who said he witnessed the crash, the driver of the Mitsubishi Lancer broke the red light and hit the van. He said the “van flew” and hit a light pole. He said the driver was killed on impact.

He said two were pulled alive from the van. The driver said the police retrieved firearms from the van which belonged to the security officers.
