Teen shot at Saffon St after raising alarm about gun

A teenager was shot on Sunday evening shot during a lime with his friends after he raised an alarm upon seeing another with a firearm.

Injured is 14-year-old Nathan Martin of Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown. He was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he reportedly underwent surgery and was discharged yesterday afternoon.

The police said in a press release that around 19:00 hrs on Sunday Martin was among a group of friends on the roadway at Saffon Street, Charlestown, when he was shot to his abdomen by a man armed with a firearm. The perpetrator managed to escape.

A source told Stabroek News that the incident occurred while the young man was walking along Saffon Street with some friends.

According to the source, it was when the teenager looked back and saw the man with a firearm that he raised an alarm to his friends and a shot was discharged in his direction.

The police were summoned and Martin was picked up and taken to the hospital.

While on the way there, he saw someone fitting the description of the suspect and pointed out him to the police who made an arrest. But the man denied the allegation and was later released.

Investigations are ongoing.
