Lewis, who had indicated his willingness to plead since his committal, appeared on Monday morning before Justice Franklyn Holder at the Berbice Assizes, where he quickly pleaded not guilty to murder but confessed to the lesser count of manslaughter, which was accepted by the State.

Representing Lewis was attorney Sasha Roberts, of the Guyana Legal Aid Clinic, who requested a probation report on the background of the prisoner prior to sentencing.

Consequently, the matter was adjourned to March 22nd.

On December 27th, 2012, the deceased, Devon DaSilva, said to be the foster nephew-in-law of the accused, was asleep at his girlfriend’s house at Sisters Village, when he was attacked. After carrying out the attack, Lewis ingested poison, however, he was subsequently hospitalised. He was charged with murder after being released.
