Fugitive’s bullet-riddled body found in city cemetery

The body of fugitive Steve Mohamed, a murder accused, was found riddled with bullets early yesterday morning at Le Repentir Cemetery in Georgetown.

Stabroek News was told that the body of Mohamed, of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, was found around 6am along a dam with six gunshot wounds.

A police statement said the body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral home to await a post-mortem examination.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Stabroek News yesterday that the fingerprints from the body matched those of Mohamed, thereby confirming his identity. He said an investigation is ongoing.

Shafeek Mohamed, Steve’s father, said he had not seen or heard from the man since last year and was unaware of where he was staying.

He said he received a call early yesterday morning informing him that they had found his son’s body at the cemetery but he had not gone to visit the body. “Me ain’t going he sister gone to see if is he and she ain’t come back yet,” he said.

Mohamed, formerly of Kaneville, had a wanted bulletin issued for him in December after he escaped from custody. He had been charged with the murder of Quacy Thompson, who was killed on July 15, 2014, at Mowasi Landing, Konawaruk.

Mohamed, in October, 2014, was also charged with armed robbery, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and discharging a loaded weapon to prevent a policeman from arresting him. Last month, he was sentenced, in his absence, to 10 years for the charges of unlawful firearm and ammunition possession and discharging a loaded firearm.

He was ordered to serve five years in jail for unlawful firearm possession as well as for unlawful possession of ammunition.

He was also sentenced to five years in jail on the charge of discharging a loaded firearm. The sentences were to run concurrently.
