Dead is Carl Clarkson, 42, called ‘Boy Blue’ of Lot 37 Bel Air Village, East Coast Demerara. The man was reportedly flung from the second storey of the concrete structure, located next door to Salt and Pepper, after a steel rod he was carrying came into contact with electrical wires. It was said that the rod was being handed to him from workers on the floor below.

His body hit the zinc fence and was then pitched back into the building, his sister Diane Chase told Stabroek News, citing an account related by a passer-by. It is believed that Clarkson died on the spot. When this newspaper visited the construction site yesterday afternoon, the gate was padlocked and no one was seen at the location.

Chase related that their mother had been on her way to the site to carry lunch for Clarkson when she was told of his death and that the body had been transported to the hospital. The rest of the family received news of his death not from his employer, but from an employee of Salt and Pepper and another worker, who paid a visit to the home.

It was not clear yesterday if the matter had been reported to the authorities.
