Accused faints after assault victim requests million dollar compensation

A woman yesterday fainted in a city court after hearing a request for $1 million compensation from another woman who she is accused of injuring.

Phintha Frank was brought before Magistrate Annette Singh and read a charge which stated that on August 4th, at Stabroek Market, she unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Sandy Watts.

Frank previously entered a not guilty plea to the charge.

It is alleged that Frank and Watts had an argument over a phone, which led to Frank throwing a concoction on the complainant.

The court heard that as a result of the act by the defendant, Watts has to undergo corrective surgery to one of her eyes. Watts stated that she would like to be compensated $1 million for the injuries she sustained.

Subsequent to hearing the request, Frank fainted and had to be taken out of the courtroom by medics. The matter has been adjourned until November 11th.
