Police get more vehicles

Often criticised for not responding promptly to reports of crimes because of a lack of transportation, the Guyana Police Force yesterday announced that additional vehicles have been made available to it through the Public Security Ministry.

In a statement issued yesterday afternoon, the force said additional two- and four-wheel vehicles have made available, of which seven All-Terrain Vehicles, three pick-ups, and eight motorcycles have already been delivered by the supplier.

The full complement of the additional mobile resources, the force said, is yet to be realised.

Meanwhile, the statement noted that in light of the thrust towards beefing up policing arrangements in Region Nine and in the Rupununi District in particular, additional manpower and increased supervisory capacity have been allocated to Annai Police Station, which now has five policemen stationed and two All-Terrain Vehicles.

In ‘E’ Division (Linden), the statement said, an additional All-Terrain Vehicle has been allocated to the Mabura Police Station and a new All-Terrain Vehicle has been assigned to the Ituni Police Station, while two motorcycles for Anti-Crime patrols were allocated to Mackenzie Police Station.

In ‘A’ Division (Georgetown/East Bank Demerara), the force said a new 4×4 and four new motorcycles have been allocated for Anti-Crime patrols.

In ‘C’ Division (East Coast Demerara), it added, a new 4×4 has also been allocated for Anti-Crime patrols.

In ‘D’ Division (West Coast/West Bank Demerara), two new motor cycles and a new 4×4 vehicle have also been allocated for Anti-Crime patrols.

On receipt of the additional mobile resources, the force said, further allocation will be made and this will be announced.
