Vincent Adams to address 50th UG Convocation

Guyanese Dr Vincent Adams, Deputy Field Manager in the US Department of Energy, is expected to deliver the keynote address at the 50th Convocation of the University of Guyana (UG), Turkeyen campus, on November 12, 2016, a release from the University of Guyana said.

Dr Adams is an alumnus of UG and was amongst the first batch of graduates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

The release said that around 1600 students are expected to graduate. One notable milestone of the 50th Convocation, the release added, is the graduation of the first batch of students from four new programmes offered at the university in the Faculties of Health Sciences and Technology. Six students will be presented with the Master’s degree in Internal Medicine/Infectious Diseases; along with six students who will be conferred with the Master’s degree in Public Health. The Bachelor of Science in Medical Rehabilitation will be bestowed on three students; while nine students, including UG staffers from the Facilities Maintenance Division will receive the Diploma in Industrial Engineering. The release said that special mention must be made of the outstanding achievements of Ganesh Mithra Singh, a visually impaired student, who will be graduating with a degree in Social Work (Distinction).

To mark the occasion of the 50th Convocation, the university will debut the Jubilee Song, which will be sung by the newly formed university choir, led by Sandrene Abrams, and accompanied by the Guyana Police Force band.
