Two killed in Liliendaal crash

A motorcyclist and a pedestrian died on the spot last night in a horrific accident on the Rupert Craig Highway,  Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Up to press time this morning one of the deceased had been positively identified as Frank De Florimonte Jr, 25, while the other male deceased was said to be from Barr Street, Kitty.

Eyewitnesses said that De Florimonte, a miner, of Lot 61, 4th Street, Sparendaam, ECD was heading to the seawalls when the accident occurred.

Details of the accident remain sketchy, but one eyewitness told Stabroek News he was riding behind  De Florimonte and observed the bike skating on the southern carriageway.

Stabroek News learnt that De Florimonte who was riding motorcycle CH 7805 was speeding on the roadway when he collided with the pedestrian. As a result of the impact, he lost control of his motorcycle and flicked off. He sustained head injuries while the other victim suffered head  and other injuries.

Eyewitnesses reported that the pedestrian was attempting to cross the road when he was struck down.

The pedestrian was found motionless in the corner of the road some distance away from where De Florimonte was left with his motorcycle next to him.

Family members of De Florimonte quickly gathered on the scene in the vicinity of Yokohama Trading and broke down in tears.  His sister sobbed uncontrollably as she saw his lifeless body on the roadway. “I does be scared every time you go on the road… Junior come leh we go home…”his sister wailed in disbelief moments before undertakers took away his body from the scene.

Meanwhile his father, Frank De Florimonte Snr  said “I does tell this boy not to ride speed but he don’t hear… he does do this for fun… I weary talk to him but you know how young people stay”.
