Missing ECG machine at Suddie Hospital

Dear Editor,

It has been drawn to my attention by concerned residents and staff of the Suddie Hospital that machines were unaccounted for and that malpractices were going on there. Investigations are now being carried out into a missing cardiograph machine which disappeared since October 2015 from this institution, and there is speculation that other vital equipment could be missing as well.

I was made to understand from the APNU+AFC Regional Democratic Councillors of Region Two, that a heated argument erupted in the Regional boardroom over the missing ECG machine at the last statutory meeting, and the Chairman of the Suddie Health Committee came under heavy fire. His defence was that he wasn’t aware of the missing machine, but that he would do everything in his power as chairman to find out if other equipment was unaccounted for and report back to the Clerk of the RDC and the Regional Chairman.

The Health Committee Chairman also informed the meeting that there was a shortage of employees and there were doctors at the hospital who had not been registered. More laugher erupted when he announced that there was a shortage of drugs because of miscommunication and a transportation issue to get the drugs into the region.

He told the council when questioned that the registration of non-registered doctors would soon take place. Regional Chairman Devanand Ramdatt informed the councillors that Suddie hospital was facilitated with four ECG machines as far as he was aware when he took office in May2015; he advised both sides of the council not to be divided on the issue, he would do what was necessary to recover the machine or get a new one from the Ministry of Health.

The Minister of Health, Dr Norton, should launch an immediate investigation into the missing ECG machine and the functioning of the Suddie Public Hospital.

Yours faithfully,
Mohamed Khan
