Foreign journalists take liberties with WI cricketers

Dear Editor,

I am pleased that I did not hear the voice of Mark Nicholas in either of the two games that WI won to put them in a very strong position in their division in the World Cup competition. As I hope all WI fans remember, he had written before the games begun that “West Indies are short of brains.” If things were different I might have thought that his absence from the commentary teams was a consequence of my complaint to the ICC, but I know better.

My comments on that issue are not accepted even on cricinfo website, notwithstanding all the nonsense published there consistently.

After the Sri Lankan game, a foreign commentator, having heard Badree interviewed, felt it acceptable to say that not only does Badree bowl well, he also “speaks well.” I am certain that Badree, who is a teacher, is more educated than that commentator.

I can never understand why some of these foreign journalists take such liberties with WI cricketers, and it is even more baffling why the WICB and WI journalists do or say nothing about these insults. Those liberties are never taken with cricketers from other nations.

Yours faithfully,
Romain Pitt
