His was a gift of turning the ordinary into poetry

Dear Editor,

I read with great sadness of the passing of Ras Michael. He was a brother that we got to know while at our business on Regent Street. Many a conversations/gaff we had on his faith and ours. He told me about his belief in Lord Siva whom he called Baba. I was interested in his poetry but he left Guyana before we could have done anything together.

Found him on Facebook a year or so ago and he added me as soon as I sent him a friend’s request. His writings are thought provoking and immensely profound.

He would from time to time, post his thoughts online. I don’t like profanities yet his was a gift of turning the ordinary into poetry that he would often time, ornament with cuss words. It was beautiful.

I left Facebook a while now and missed his words.

Today, I read of his passing and mourn the loss of another immensely gifted Guyanese brother, an unsung hero. You are already missed, my brethren. Walk good.

Yours faithfully,

Nanda Sahadeo
