Why no 98.1FM in Berbice?

Dear Editor,

It is sad that after so many new radio stations were launched in Guyana and Berbice too, that Berbicians still cannot receive the signals of 98.1 FM on their radios. In addition, for years upon years the online broadcast of this station has been on and off. CEO after CEO has been changed at this entity, yet none of them can get the job right. There’s a poor availability of the online broadcast of VOG, RR, and none at all for 98.1 FM. I think it’s time the government paid a close eye to this matter and allowed NCN to relay its radio signals in a clearer manner to Berbice.

On another matter, what has happened to the Basil P Show aired from 6pm to midnight on Sundays on 98.1 FM for over a decade? This much loved show was stopped (I cannot say when since I do not get this station online or in Berbice) and I was made aware that it was pulled from the airwaves.

What was the justification for this? I know GTT was a major sponsor for a few hours of the programme. If this company has pulled its support, I am kindly asking them to rethink their decision ‒ also NCN ‒ to bring back this programme to the nation. Basil Persaud is a very talented disc jockey who has made a huge contribution to the world of music and radio. Please, NCN.

Yours faithfully,

Leon Suseran
