Cricket should be re-admitted as an Olympic sport

Dear Editor,

SN readers may be interested to know that cricket was once an Olympic sport. In the Paris Games of 1900 cricket was included for the first and only time. On that unique occasion the withdrawal of all the other intended contestants left Britain and France as the finalists. Britain beat France and won the gold medal, leaving France with the silver. I assume, but do not know, that the gold medal is held in a special cabinet at Lords.

The T20 format is perfect for Olympic competition. As World Champions, the West Indies should take the lead in applying for cricket to be re-admitted as an Olympic sport

Yours faithfully,

Ian McDonald
