Guyana will be represented at St Lucia National Reparations Committee event

Dear Editor,

The following communication was received from the St Lucia National Reparations Committee:

“…As you will have learned by now (hopefully), the Saint Lucia NRC will on August 17 host a special event to commemorate the 129th Anniversary of the Birth of Marcus Mosiah Garvey.

Co-sponsored by the NRC, the UWI Open Campus and the Office of the Prime Minister, the event will include the launching of a Reparations Series to be co-sponsored by the NRC and Open Campus, with the inaugural lecture to be delivered by Ambassador Dr. June Soomer, the new Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).

“It will also feature the launching of the UN Decade for People of African Descent in Saint Lucia and the passing of the Reparations Baton from Surinam to Saint Lucia.

“The event will be broadcast live and simultaneously throughout the region through cooperation of Open Campus/UWI, local state and private Radio and TV and will also be streamed through local and regional private and state entities that have confirmed participation.

“The Saint Lucia NRC is pleased to invite each fellow NRC to be represented at the August 17 event. We will appreciate messages as well from each fellow entity…”

Guyana has sent Mrs Penda Guyan, a member of the Guyana Reparations Committee to take the Torch and a Message to this event. Guyana will also take a mahogany replica of the Caricom Torch as a gift to St Lucia.

Yours faithfully,

Eric M Phillips Jr
