Uitvlugt win on penalty kicks

Uitvlugt won the Mayor Hamilton Green 81st birthday seven-a-side inter-ward football tournament defeating Pouderoyen via penalty kicks in the final Sunday at the Den Amstel Community ground.

With the score locked at 0-0 at the end of regulation time, Uitvlugt prevailed over fellow West Demerara unit 2-1 from the penalty mark to take home $200,000 and the John Fernandes Limited-sponsored championship trophy.

Pouderoyen collected $100,000 and a trophy. Both teams will receive hampers donated by Ricks and Sari.

Trayon Bobb of Uitvlugt was adjudged the event’s most valuable player (MVP and highest goal scorer with eight conversions. He will receive a three-piece furniture suite from AH&L Kissoon.

In the third place playoff, Kitty defeated home side Den Amstel 1-0 via the penalty kick route. Kitty won $70,000 and the China Trading sponsored trophy while Den Amstel will pocket $30,000 and the Business School sponsored trophy.

In the semi-final, Uitvlugt sealed their berth to the final after edging fierce rival Den Amstel 1-0 while Pouderoyen defeated Kitty 2-0 in the second semi-final. In the opening quarterfinal fixtures, Kitty crushed Lima Dam 3-1 while Uitvlugt swamped Haslington 5-1.

The final two quarterfinals witnessed Den Amstel edging Mahaica 2-1 on penalty kicks following a scoreless normal time interval and Pouderoyen downing Victoria 3-2 on penalty kicks after regulation time ended 0-0.
