Assanah, Branford invited to play in England

National hockey players Jamarj Assanah and Aroydy Branford have been invited to play for the Bishop’s Stortford Hockey Club in the East Men’s Hockey League.

The two were selected following outstanding performances on representative national teams over the past two years.

According to a press release, Assanah and Branford exploits caught the eye of coach of Bishop’s Stortford, former Trinidad & Tobago international Albert Marcano.

Marcano subsequently contacted England-based Guyanese international Marvin Dannett.

The release stated that once the players visa applications are approved, they will join the club for the second half of the season.

Branford is also scheduled to represent Guyana at the Junior Pan American Championships in Toronto, Canada from May 20-28.

Assanah, the release stated, was Guyana’s most outstanding player at the 2014 Indoor Pan American Cup in Montevideo, Uruguay scoring seven goals from 5 matches. He ended that tournament as the number two goal scorer.

He was also a member of the Guyana team which placed fourth at the Pan American Challenge, in Chicklayo, Peru last year where the team’s only two loses came via penalty shoot-outs.

Branford, the release stated, spearheaded the junior national team to 10 wins and three losses on their last two international tours. He was a member of Guyana’s historic bronze medal winning team at the 2014 Indoor Pan American Cup.

At last year’s Pan American Challenge in Peru, he scored nine goals from five matches to end the tournament as the number two goal scorer, the release ended.
