According to a press release, the delegation “presented a compelling case for the Government’s intervention to bring a final resolution to the administration of cricket in Guyana.

“The delegation argued that the court order which prevents the holding of elections by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and its three County Board members must be dismissed in order for the holding of free, fair and transparent elections,” added the release.

The legality of GCB elections has been cause for concern with a question with Berbice not contesting the elections and two factions claiming to be the legal representative of the Demerara Cricket Board.

The press release stated that…”The meeting was extremely fruitful with a course of action discussed towards the holding of proper elections for the first time in five (5) years.

“The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere with the Attorney General listening attentively to the various concerns expressed by the members of the delegation,” the release added.

A follow–up meeting was confirmed.

The cricket stakeholders had previously met with Minister of Education with responsibility for Sport, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine and also the National Sports Commission.
