Meusa is sole leader in Trophy Stall chess tournament

Wendell Meusa scored a decisive win over FIDE Candidate Master Anthony Drayton in the third round of the Trophy Stall seven round Swiss system tournament which continued Sunday at the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue.

Drayton, FIDE rated 1947 lost to former national champion and FIDE National Instructor Meusa  (also rated 1947 by FIDE) who is now in sole possession of the lead with the maximum three points after three completed rounds of the first tournament of the year by the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF).

Loris Nathoo making a return to competitive chess occupies second position with two  and a half points while nine players are joint third with two points each. Those players are Drayton, Roberto Neto, Davion Mars, Ron Motielall, Davion Mars, Frankie Farley, Taffin Khan, Maria Thomas Gonsalves and Kristoff Persaud.

Former president of the GCF Errol Tiwari, Rashard Hussain,  Gabriel Ferrer,  Kenrick Braithwaite, Jessica Callender, Ghansham Allijohn and Jason Willis are on one point each.

Of the other competitors Owen Mickle has half a point while John Wong and Aslam Hussain are yet to score a point.

The competition will end this weekend with the remaining four rounds.
