DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – West Indies Twenty20 captain Darren Sammy ended the game with a six as his Peshawar Zalmi beat Lendl Simmons’ Karachi Kings by five wickets in the final group stage game of the Pakistan Super League here yesterday.
Chasing a competitive 153 at the Dubai International Stadium, Zalmi got home in the penultimate over with nine balls remaining in the contest when Sammy clobbered seamer Sohail Khan over the mid-wicket ropes.
Sammy ended unbeaten on 11 from six deliveries while Australian batsman Brad Hodge ended on a superb 85 not out from 45 balls with six fours and six sixes.
He and Sammy added a whirlwind 47 runs from 15 deliveries for the sixth wicket.
Simmons had earlier top-scored with 49 from 37 balls as Kings, opting to bat first, finished on 152 for seven from their 20 overs.
He put on 41 for the first wicket with Shahzaib Hasan (18) and 30 for the third wicket with Pakistani star Shoaib Malik who made 15.
Simmons struck six fours and two sixes before he was bowled by leg-spinner Shahid Afridi in the 11th over with Kings on 83 for three.
In the other game, Barbados and West Indies opener Dwayne Smith failed in his first game of the tournament but his Islamabad United still beat Dwayne Bravo’s Lahore Qalanders by five wickets.
Smith fell in the second over for just 11 with just 13 runs on the board but Australian Brad Hodge struck 54 from 42 deliveries to carry Islamabad to their target of 151, with an over remaining.
Captain Misbad-ul-Haq made a breezy unbeaten 38 from 19 deliveries with seven fours.
Bravo went wicket-less in his four overs which cost 32 runs.
He had earlier been run out for 13 as Qalanders made 150 for five off their 20 overs, with Pakistani Umar Akmal lashing an unbeaten 72 from 49 balls.
