Police whip Camptown 2-0

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) arrested Sunburst Camptown 2-0 when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer Division one League continued on Thursday.

Played at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda, Anthio Wallace opened the scoring in the 22nd minute heading the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper into the back of the net, after collecting a cross from the left side on the right of the six yard box.

The Campbellville unit should have levelled the score in the 29th minute but Joel Jemmett was denied at the top of the box by the onrushing ‘keeper following a one-on-one situation.

Camptown continued to fashion chances but were denied. In the 55th minute, a powerful Troy Prescod free kick was parried away by the ‘keeper while Anthony Sancho should have equalised three minutes later, latching onto a pass within the centre of the box, only to fire his effort wide of the lower left corner with only the goalkeeper in his path.

Camptown was reduced to 10 men in the 68th minute as Joel Bond was issued a red card for striking an opposing player after being the recipient of a crunching tackle. The lawmen quickly capitalised on their numerical advantage with Quincy Holder directing his header into the left side of the net after collecting a left side cross in the six yard area.

Things went from bad to worse for Camptown in the 83rd minute as Kenneth Jackson was sent off after picking up his second yellow card for a wild challenge.

In the second fixture Riddim Squad and Northern Rangers battled to a 0-0 result. Action in the championship continues on Monday at the same locale with a doubleheader.
