Former Guyana and West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan says that he is thrilled about his upcoming stint with the Trinidad & Tobago Knight Riders in this year’s Hero Caribbean Premier League (HCPL) T20 tournament adding that there was still a lot of cricket left in him.
Speaking with Stabroek Sport following the conclusion of the 2016 CPL player draft held in Barbados recently, the 35-year-old Sarwan said he was pretty buoyant about his upcoming role as one of the more senior batsmen in the all-star Knight Riders line-up.
“I’m happy to be selected,” he said adding….”I’m also happy with the team that I have been drafted to because I have a good connection with the Trinidadian people.”
During the inaugural CPL, Sarwan led the Guyana Amazon Warriors to A runner-up finish losing the 2013 final to the Jamaica Tallawahs in Trinidad & Tobago.
Sarwan, who recently opened a state-of-the-art gym called Fitness 53, has not played competitive cricket for approximately nine months.
His last T20 was for Leicestershire in June of 2014 where he scored a run-a-ball 37 against Warwickshire.
The right handed batsman returned to action earlier this year with a stylish cameo during a Unity T20 match played at the Providence National Stadium among some of the West Indies top T20 players.
“My first objective is to get myself match fit and to practice as much and play some cricket or, if the opportunity comes, to head to Trinidad to play. I just want to get match ready and try hit a lot balls,” he declared.
Sarwan, who played 181 One Day Internationals and 87 Test matches for the West Indies, chuckled when asked if a possible comeback was on the horizon.
“I’m not saying that it is a comeback but I just want to take it one step at a time because I believe that I still have a lot of cricket left in me,” he said.
