Bolt, Fraser-Pryce among Laureus nominees

LONDON, CMC – Jamaicans Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce have been named among a star-studded nominations list for the 2016 Laureus world sportsman and sportswoman of the year awards.

Bolt is the reigning World and Olympic 100 and 200 metres champion, and is already a three-time winner of the Laureus award after claiming awards in 2009, 2010 and 2013.

The 29-year-old stormed to victories last year at the Beijing World Championships, successfully defending his sprint titles.

Like Bolt, Fraser-Pryce captured the 100 metres at last year’s World Championship, to also successfully defend the title she won in Moscow in 2013.

The pint-sized sprinter s aiming for her first-ever Laureus award.

Ethiopian long-distance runner Genzebe Dibaba, the reigning 1500m World champion and Laureus winner, has also been nominated. Among the other nominees are NBA star Stephen Curry, tennis world number one Novak Djokovic and British Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton.

The Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony will take place next month in Berlin.
