It was a night of upset wins as the Guyana Defence Force and Buxton United defeated Pele and Georgetown Football Club respectively when the League Finale section of the GFF Stag Beer Elite League continued on Sunday.

The army unit snapped their two game losing streak compliments of a 1-0 result in a fixture devoid of many chances at the Camp Ayanganna ground.

Due to the win, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) move to six points from four matches. The loser on the other hand, remain on four points from as many games.

The home side should have taken the lead in the second minute as Delroy Fraser upon racing onto a poor back pass within the right of the box, struck his effort past the onrushing keeper onto the right upright, with an empty goal at his mercy.

The home side had to wait until the 41st minute to record another threatening attempt amid the pressure of their foe as Alden Lawrence netted.

Racing onto lobbed pass within the left side of the box, Lawrence finished past the advancing keeper into the right corner while being challenged by his marker.

The hosts were then dealt a severe blow in the 65th minute as Kennard Simon was issued a red card, after picking up his second bookable offence, in the process handing Pele the numerical advantage.

Similarly the visitors thought they had secured a point in the 90th+2 minute as Pedro finished past the advancing Cornette from within the centre of the area, only to be deemed off side.

Meanwhile Buxton United secured their first win of the event, downing Georgetown Football Club by a 3-2 margin.

Dillon Wright netted a brace in the 19th and 79th minutes while Tyrone Harper scored in the 62nd minute.

On the target in the loss was Peter Parks and Linden Picketts in the 21st and 52nd minute correspondingly.
