Slingerz FC maintained their grip atop the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League, dismissing Monedderlust 4-0 Thursday at the Leonora Sports Facility ground.
Trayon Bobb opened the scoring in the fifth minute racing down the left side of the field before cutting into the box and striking his effort into the right corner.
Kithson Bain made it 2-0 five minutes later, directing his header past the ‘keeper after collecting a Tichard Joseph cross from a corner kick inside the six yard area.
The score line ballooned once more in the 39th minute as Devon Millington etched his name on the scorer’s sheet, latching onto a through pass from Gideon Payne before cutting across his marker and finishing inside the area past the goalkeeper.
Domini Garnett sealed the score line in the 90th+2 minute compliments of a diving header, after leaping to receive a right side cross from Vurlon Mills
With the result, Slingerz maintain their unbeaten run and move to 18 points. The losers remain in seventh position on two points.
Meanwhile Alpha United downed Buxton United 2-0 compliments of goals from Colin Nelson and Joshua Browne. With the win, Alpha United climbs to third position on 11 points while the losers remain on five points and in sixth position.
Action in the event continues March 24th at the No. # 5 ground in Berbice. In the opening fixture, Fruta Conquerors will oppose Georgetown Football Club at 19:00hrs while Guyana Defence Force will tackle Monedderlust in the feature contest at 21:00hrs.
Upon the conclusion of the League Finale round, the top four finishers in terms of points will face off against each other in single knockout format to decide the winner of the round.
The semi-final round will commence on May 12th while the finale and third place playoff will occur on May 23rd.
The leaders will face-off with the fourth placed side while the second positioned club will tackle the third positioned unit at a venue to be announced.
Winner of the League Finale round will pocket $4,000,000 while the second, third and fourth place teams will collect $2,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively.
Similarly, the leading team prior to the knockout stage in the League Finale round will pocket an additional G$1,000,000.
