Candidate Master Drayton leads ECI chess tournament

Guyana’s Candidate Master Anthony Drayton with three points from the three rounds played is the sole leader of the Guyana Chess federation (GCF) Engineering and Construction Inc., (ECI)-sponsored chess tournament which took place last weekend.

Drayton racked up a clean slate of wins from his three matches in the event which is being held at the National Resource Centre, Woolford Avenue.

Wendell Meusa and Taffin Khan, both former senior national champions, are locked in second spot on 2.5 points, from two wins and a draw against each other.

Six players, Maria Thomas, Davion Mars, Roberto Neto, Errol Tiwari, Chino Chung and Kristoff Persaud, are on two points each while Obeng Quamina, Calvin Giddings, Ghansham Allijohn, Jessica Callender, John Wong and Jayden Taylor have one point each.

Three players are yet to get off the mark after losing all of their matches and those players are Nellisha Johnson and Shazeeda Rahim.

The final four rounds of the seven-round Swiss-system tournament will contested this weekend at the same venue.
